First StePs of Discipleship
A disciple is a follower of Jesus.
And discipleship is the lifelong process of learning how to focus our hearts, minds, and souls on Jesus as we grow alongside of other believers. At Calvary, we have three “first steps” of discipleship.
The first step is to committing to the Sunday morning worship service.
Gathering together to worship God through prayer, hearing and receiving God’s Word, and sharing in relationships with other believers is essential to growth as a disciple of Jesus.
The second step is to join a Community Group.
God created us for deep and meaningful relationships, first with Him and second
with other followers of Jesus. Community Groups are small groups of believers
who gather together in order to live on mission for Jesus as they grow in their relationship with God and one another.
The third step is to participate in Calvary’s Four Core Discipleship Classes.
- The first class, Growing in Christ, teaches the basics of what it means to live as a follower of Jesus. This class explains what discipleship is, teaches practical ways to grow as a disciple, and provides guidance on living in the power of the Holy Spirit.
- The second class, The Kingdom of Christ, provides a “big picture” understanding of the story line of the Bible. This class demonstrates that the Bible is one cohesive story that points to Jesus and is very helpful in understanding how the different books of the Bible all fit together.
- The third class, The Community of Christ, teaches God’s design for the church. This class is necessary for membership at Calvary and provides biblical teaching on the nature of the Church as the family of God, as well as how Calvary seeks to embrace God’s Word in this area.
- The fourth class, Redemption Groups, is an intense small group environment that equips believers to become free from sins they are struggling with so that they can freely worship and enjoy Jesus.
