The Bible gives us a picture of relationships within the Church that is radically different than relationships that exist in the world. As followers of Jesus, we are expected to sacrificially commit ourselves to loving and serving others, and to growing with one another as we pursue Jesus together. In fact, the Bible is clear that it is impossible for Christians to grow into the maturity of Christ that God desires apart from living in committed, Christian community
(1 Cor. 12; Eph. 4:11-16; Heb. 10:24-25).
Jesus chose to form a “Community Group” in order to make His first disciples. He chose twelve disciples so that they might be with Him and He might send them out to preach (Mark 3:14). He modeled for us relational discipleship that involves doing life together as we pursue Jesus and share His love and Gospel with the world.
At Calvary, we are committed to developing this type of Christian community. Our Community Groups are small groups of 5 to 16 believers who are committed to Worshiping God, Growing in Christ, and Serving in the Spirit. These groups experience Jesus together through studying God’s Word, applying it to their lives, and praying together. These groups represent Jesus to one another through caring for each other and lovingly holding each other accountable to God’s truth. These groups present Jesus to the world by sacrificially serving unbelievers and sharing the Gospel with them.
